Sherlock is built on a simple principle: we only work with content that is already public. Here is exactly where our data comes from and where we draw the line.
What we search
When you run a search, Sherlock compares the face in your photo against openly published images across the web, including:
- Public profiles and posts on major social networks, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, and OnlyFans.
- Openly accessible pages across the broader public web.
- Publicly visible profile and cover imagery.
What we never touch
- Private, protected, or friends-only content of any kind.
- Anything behind a login, paywall, or privacy setting.
- Data that is not openly published for public viewing.
What happens to your photo
The image you upload is used for one thing only: that single search. We do not keep a copy, we do not add it to any directory, we do not link it to another person, and we never sell it. Once the search finishes, it is deleted.
Your results stay yours
Every result belongs to your account alone. Nobody else can see what you searched, and we do not create public pages for the people you look into.
